Where it all started

I went to the only elementary school in my city that offered English as a second language. You might think I was lucky. But that wasn’t the case. That’s where my struggles began.

My teacher rushed through the textbook with no time for practice. Those of us who needed to go slower or repeat things were left behind.

There was no real speaking, no repetition, no chance to absorb the basics, just one page after another. So, from the very beginning, I started to fall behind.

I spent years studying English the «traditional» way: filling in grammar exercises, reading short texts silently, and barely doing any listening or speaking practice.

And after all that, I still couldn’t understand native speakers or build a simple sentence in conversation.

The turning point

Even after completing my degree in Spanish language and culture, including a master’s degree in language teaching, I lacked the confidence to teach my language to international students.

How could I help others if I had never truly learned a language myself?

That’s why I took a training program to become a manager assistant and started working as a secretary in a language school.

Then something shifted.
One day, a friend recommended a radio show hosted by an American English teacher.

I gave it a try, and I never stopped listening.

His logical, step-by-step approach helped everything finally fall into place.
For the first time, I focused on understanding and repeating the basics, not memorizing rules.

Here are the mistakes learners should avoid

We waste years:

  • Focusing on the wrong things.
  • Memorizing incomprehensible grammar and never practicing.
  • Hoping that listening skills will appear out of nowhere.

But language is not about filling blanks in a book or memorizing an endless list of rules.
It’s about connection: understanding and being understood.
